living in south jersey as portrait / wedding photographers we get lots of requests to do engagement shoots on the beach. while the beach can be an ideal location on certain days of the year it can also turn very cold, windy, and bright the majority of the time. fellow photographers often ask us “how to shoot engagement portraits on the beach?” our approach to beach photography is quite simple: we like to find a location on the beach that offers us plenty of options… things like piers, jetties, wooden steps, beach walls, & dunes all work well. having different textures available to you during your shoot will allow you plenty of options for posing your couple and discovering interesting composition opportunities. it is also a huge advantage to schedule your session about an hour or so before sunset. having the sun low in the sky will provide more flattering lighting on your subjects, this is key for portrait photography. we also like to shoot half of our session on the beach and half around the surrounding neighborhood to give the session more dynamic. the next time you have have to photograph some portraits on the beach, try our little tips and don’t just shoot the big blue sky and ocean the whole time. samara+dani met us over at the beach in margate, nj for their engagement session on a chilly afternoon a few hours before sunset. these two were a complete ball of fun and up for every crazy thing we asked them to do in front of our cameras. we couldn’t have asked for anything more. (: dani & his partner raina run a killer clothing boutique in northfield nj, called simply fly boutique – while samara sticks to laying down the law. next time you’re in town, make sure you stop in to say hello and tell them how “rockin hot” they looked in their engagement pictures. baby luke is way cute

lauren and i are so happy for adrien+matt and their adorable little addition, luke. we had the pleasure of photographing baby & fam squad a few weeks ago at their lovely home just a few blocks from us. luke totally brought the “happy” and was an absolute joy to be around. our 5 month old baby cruz would love to hang out with him sometime soon. congratulations! enjoy.

you wouldn’t have believed my excitement when i saw these two mugs about to greet us as we walked into the house. (:

wedding reception of crazy | jess+brad

this is a long one folks, sit back and enjoy the crazy. we rarely show a lot of reception photos from the weddings we shoot, so we are mixing it up here a bit. (: plus, jess and brad are friends of ours and we knew plenty of the guests at this reception. what better way for a little embarrassment around the holidays. pump up the volume!! enjoy.

Story Book Land Engagement: Courtney+Scott

i have to admit that i’ve been to story book land in egg harbor township a number of times with my family and never once thought about shooting an engagement session there. i was pleasantly surprised when courtney contacted me and suggested to have her photo session at story book land – seriously, how fun is that? these two totally tipped the awesome scale during their engagement photo shoot. thank you again courtney+scott for thinking outside the box and going for something completely fun and original. major bonus points in my book. enjoy.

courtney is an amazing sign language teacher and has taught scott a few hand signs throughout their relationship together. this one means, “i love you” – and they told me this is how they communicate with each other from across the room. how cute is that?
